Glover Prize diary

Each year during the long week-end in March, Evandale turns on a superb arts festival; a celebration of fine art and fine music.

The Glover Prize exhibition is a fabulous show of paintings depicting Tasmania. The $35,000 prize is the richest landscape award in Australia and even brings entries from artists living overseas.

The show is held in the historic Falls Park pavilion, a building of colonial elegance, its rural market-hall architecture a contrast to the contemporary work on show. It’s a visual powerhouse.

On the Sunday evening the gallery is converted into a concert hall for members of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. The recitals are memorable, listening to world class music while looking at fine art in the colonial setting is an unique experience.
