The work reflects the viewer in Caspar David Friedrich’s great Romantic landscape “Wanderer Looking over a Sea of Fog” , 1815 in which the wanderer looks out over a virginal landscape shrouded in mist. Friedrich said: “I have to stay alone in order to fully contemplate and feel nature.”
