Ducks on the Stream, ex-Marieville Esplanade
I walk a lot. One day just before Christmas 2103, it was hot, and I walked from North Hobart to Sandy Bay. I passed over a small bridge at the end to eh Sandy Bay rivulet. On one side of the bridge was a quasi-Lynch-ian scene of cypress trees, two ducks treading water and a man with a camera standing hypnotised, watching them. On the other was a storm water drain clogged with brilliantly coloured plastic garbage bags, sloshing about in brown water currents, and I thought ‘ That’s my landscape’. That is to say, the unglamorous, oddly designed urban landscape is what I engage with and think about daily.
