Beacon: N.Z.O.B.-M-S-A.S 1748, By the light of the silvery moon

The Moon looks down on a marginal world, as it has done in time immemorial. The extra-terrestrial light is reflected from a monolithic sentinel on the darkened foreboding foreshore. It may be a beacon – an intentionally conspicuous device designed to attract attention to a specific location and provide important information. Or is it a misplaced decaying artefact bearing an insight into mankind’s dystopian future? Rachel Carson (1955) described the edge of the sea as a strange and beautiful place where waves crash against the land. The littoral zone has seen the long history of the earth and times when oceans have pressed forward over continents, receded and then returned. But now, the Anthropocene Epoch has commenced with human actions having a detrimental impact on the planet.
