Magenta Mist, Rock Island Bend

The continuing action to save the Tasmanian landscape from unbridled progress has lodged the beauty of this landscape in our shared consciousness. How do we balance the presence of a significant source of industrial pollution with its important role in providing local employment? We considered these tensions and were drawn inexorably to Peter Dombrovskis’ 1979 photograph Morning Mist, Rock Island Bend and remember the role of art in changing our attitude towards the Tasmanian landscape.
