As a curious young child playing amongst the rough, gnarled beach side trees, stripping the pulpy layered bark from the Tea Trees, it occupied many hours. The aim was to procure the thinnnest layer without damaging the tree - it meant little, other than filling in school holiday time. It was not until much later that I gave thought to the presence of those trees and their significance along coastal Tasmanian landscapes. My curiosity and value for this species remains!
