28 Nixon Street, Hobart

When I first started painting I was obsessed with terrace houses. Every day I would be painting away on these two storey dwellings, each with their own personalities and unique qualities. I saw them like faces, a street of faces looking out at me. I managed to have a series of those terraces shortlisted for the Brett Whiteley traveling scholarship. My subjects changed over time as I researched more into European art history. In 2026 I returned to the terrace which I once lived in and painted it. This painting feels like an echo of that, as I’ve never lived in this house. It just looked like one of my old paintings, so I chose it.
