A Confusion of Limbs (Forest Paddock)
On a visit from Melbourne, I was struck by the proliferation of dead trees, a result, as I was later informed, of the long drought that had only recently broken. The land was green, the skies huge, but the bleached trunks of the trees marked the landscape as reminders of the recent climate event. On further explorations I discovered the remains of a possum, stuck at nature’s mercy in a tree. Its demise echoes the fate of the white forest, compacted in time and scale. The omnipresent threat of life and death pervaded the beaauty of this natural landscape.
