Ancient light #4

This work is part of my ongoing interest in colour, light and the layers of time. The padded surface suggests permeability rather than solidity, allowing colour to appear suspended, absorbed, or emerging.
I was struck by the colours of the tannin-rich waters of the Gordon River, where light is not only reflected but passes through the dense water, distorting and transforming colour into deep ambers, reds, and purples. Moving from the impermeable depths of the Gordon River to its light-filled surface, I felt the river carrying time within it – through its ancient vegetation, slow erosion, and its layered, and at times dark, history.
