Democratic Mountain

I spent some time in Hobart last year with the novelist Richard Flanagan. We were discussing Mount Wellington, and at one point he referred to it as a democratic mountain. Unlike Sydney where I am based, all of Hobart’s suburbs share a common view. The idea of shared connection to country is something I have been exploring in my landscapes over the past few years, so I was particularly drawn to make a work about this mountain.
