Devine Light

My work mostly deals with landscape, memory and the relationship within them. Devine Light is a painting that searches for a certain state that is like a spirit of place or an apparition. The painting draws on a recollection of moments and vivid memories….of my first glimpse of the Furneaux Group from the air over several visits to Flinders Island. A place of contradictions with a turbulent history and oft harsh weather and yet pristine wilderness once visited never forgotten. The conclusion of the work emerged gradually from these layers of experience and the reminiscence between them. I wish to convey something of the light of this landscape and the mystery of its elements and arrive at a painting that conveys my reaction had I just seen it for the first time.
