Flower Power (love bug)

‘Flower Power (love bug)’ is a drawing made from a photograph that I took by chance travelling through Glenorchy, a suburb of Hobart. This VW Beetle stuffed with plants and flowers was by the roadside and photographed from the car. I was drawn to the object and image as it brought together my interest in cars, plants and obsolescence, as well as referring to roadside attractions and movies such as Herbie, the “love bug”. It also represented for me a sense of quirk and freedom that I felt as a visitor to Hobart.
