Fractal moonlight, winter 1
Fractal Moonlight, Winter 1, contrasts nature’s innate complexity with the still, quiet solitude of full moon over a winter landscape. It portrays the rugged, textured essence of a wilderness cliff-face seen under moonlight, with fractal-inspired patterns mimicking organic rhythms found in nature. Contrasts of light and shadow are central to this work hinting at vastness and the mystery of life on Earth. Process not brushwork created the jagged, craggy forms of rocky terrain and snow-covered cliffs, with textures emerging naturally, guided by the inherent order of fractals. At its heart is a pristine, glowing moon, reference to a nocturne by JMW Turner – Moonlight at Millbank of 1797 – and then finding a similar deep calm even within the chaos and energy of surrounding textures. Winter Moon is an invitation to pause and reflect on finding harmony in nature’s unpredictability and quiet power of deep winter nights in Tasmania.
