Herod’s Gate: Frosty Morning
Few places are more profoundly spiritual and affecting than the wilderness landscape of Wulinantikila Country (the Walls of Jerusalem) seen here as remembered from a walk of nearly 40 years ago. I’ve since encountered landscapes bigger and grander but nothing surpasses that first encounter with the Sublime.
Today, as then, I remain deeply interested in the minimalism of Zen and the capacity of Japanese ink painters to express the full power of experience with sometimes only a few marks.
‘Herod’s Gate: Frosty Morning’ looks back to sunrise in a magical place.
