Midlands, Winter 2006

This painting is inspired by the colours of winter in the Tasmanian Southern Midlands where I live. The cumulative effect of the lack of rain over recent seasons has resulted in a landscape where the pale, bleached paddocks contrast starkly against the steel blue of the tiers in the distance. It is a landscape that feels empty and harsh. Yet its very austerity is sharply beautiful.
