Mt Lyell Mine

Having studied geology and worked in the mining industry, Mt Lyell Mine is close to my heart. Some call the bare rocky slopes ugly and a travesty on the natural environment. Others love the colourful, rugged geological vistas. Whatever your view, this landscape demands your attention. The mine is currently in care and maintenance mode and non-operational. Its future is unclear, but whatever the outcome, Queenstown is and always will be, spectator to a grand collaboration of nature and man’s endeavour.
