Mussel Beds, Wedge Beach (plein air)
All my paintings start directly from observation. I am always looking for moments where the ordinary becomes extraordinary – sometimes in subtle ways, other times quite dramatically. In this painting I was drawn to the contrast between the black mussel beds and the almost white sandstone. The overlay of gale force winds meant that there is now a lot of beach sand embedded in the painting.
