New Kid on the Block

Cats are formidable and opportunistic predators, well adapted to hunting small mammals, birds, reptiles, frogs and fish. With extinction of the thylacine and vastly reduced numbers of Tasmanian devils, competition has been significantly reduced, resulting in a significant increase in feral cat numbers. In reality, the cat is a largely nocturnal hunter and not often seen, making its numbers and its impact on the environment hard to assess.
