Once upon a time on the Nile River
Once upon a time on the Nile River there lived a painter who painted trees with such sinuosity and beauty. Such trees expressed the wildness of the Tasmanian landscape. ‘Could that have been John Glover’ you ask? ‘Yes I think it was’ I answer. Since arriving from Scotland in the early seventies as a child I have always wondered and admired the sinuous trees of John Glover. Of all the Tasmanian painters he is one of my favourites because of his landscapes and curvaceous trees. In fact I think he influenced or initiated my love of gum trees which led onto plant science then later wood work and furniture design. I enjoyed working with John Glovers’ work The River and have given you my interpretation of an extremely influential and beautiful work of art.
