The king of conifers
The King Billy pines completely blew my mind when I first encountered them in the alpine country of Cradle Mountain. These ancient trees have seen the landscape change so much in their over 900 years time span. Now an endangered species and vulnerable to climate change hopefully we can still protect them for years to come. My way of interpreting these magnificent trees is capturing a line, movement and colour that is inspired by the trees yet leaves it open to interpretation by the viewer. An embodiment of ancient weight is encapsulated by the weight of tone and a dense green like the density of an old growth highland rainforest.
