About this piece, for example, we can only perceive nature (a world that is not composed of straight lines) in comparison to man-made buildings and divided roads (objects composed of straight lines). The reverse is exactly the same. The theme of “comparison” is fundamentally a very human act, and this is why humans have been able to develop to this point. Comparing oneself with others represents communication itself. My works always forcibly pushes contradictory topic such as “modern society – primitive caricature”, and imposes a question upon the audience. The seemingly contradictory combinations of “self and others”, “domestic and overseas”, “inside and outside the body”, “native and foreign languages”, “physical and online”, “reality and virtual”, “past and future”, “life and death” and so on. The act of creating communication (and dialogue, and sometimes compromise) is fundamentally essential for my studio practice.
