View from a Window (Strahan)

This painting was made in response to an artist residency I undertook in Strahan, Tasmania, where I stayed in a small cabin by the water. The view depicted is from the desk where I worked each day: a stretch of shifting water, an ageing pier, and a small rowboat that moved with the tide and weather. I spent long periods sitting and watching the conditions change, noting light, colour, and atmosphere as they passed slowly through the day.
During the residency, my days were divided between painting, sketching, taking photographs for future works, and walking along the shoreline, collecting small objects such as shells and pieces of sea glass. For me, the painting reflects the calm and gentle rhythm of this period, a time of quiet contemplation and daydreaming.
